Baldwins Writing Style in Notes to a Native Son Essay -- James Baldwi

Father and Son: Bad to Regrettable James Baldwin is known to be a standout amongst other paper scholars in the twentieth century who composed on a couple of themes including race, separation, sexuality and above all else his own encounters. In â€Å"Notes of a Native Son†, he utilizes two principle systems to express what is on his mind. To start with, he gets a kick out of the chance to recount to a story in an account see. Following is ordinarily his investigation of the occasion. He portrays the occasion and afterward gives his hypothesis on the issue. By doing this, he concedes the peruser an opportunity to interpret the importance. His understanding may not be what the reader’s is. He gets a kick out of the chance to contend and gives the premise to his contention in â€Å"Notes of a Native Son†. All through the article he discusses himself and his dad, their relationship and how their associations impact his last sentiments toward his dad. He additionally coordinates open occurrences during those occasions into the article. This strategy presents the peruser with a chance to comprehend the race issue around then. This article is about piece of his life. To start with he begins with his father’s demise. It was incidental that the burial service was on his Baldwin’s nineteenth birthday celebration. Mr. Baldwin, his dad, and his significant other imagined a youngster close to a mind-blowing finish. This kid was brought into the world a couple of hours after his demise. Here Baldwin presents a double of life and demise, alongside different models, that he executes all through the article. In retrospection, he sees his father’s passing as a period of trouble and laments not having a more advantageous compatibility with him and he specifies that his kin are upbeat that their dad will never return home again. He educates us concerning the race revolts in Detroit and New Jersey and scrutinizes a short time later. These happenings show the influen... ...craftsmanship. Baldwin does this utilizing his very own encounters and integrating them with the more noteworthy image of society. All the narratives he has communicated in â€Å"Notes of a Native Son† can be resembled with what was happening during that period. He even clarified the mobs in that sense for the peruser. In the principal section he expresses that they drove his dad to the burial ground over crushed reinforced glass (63). This was a consequence of the disdain and despondency felt by the agitators. This visual is a portrayal of the contempt that had assisted with executing his dad. The extreme aversion that assumed a job in the passing of his dad, he dreaded would do likewise to him. The finish of the exposition shows Baldwin relinquishing this contempt and depression. Works Cited Baldwin, James. â€Å"Notes of a Native Son.† 1995. James Baldwin: Collected Essays. Ed. Why Oil and Water Dont Mix

Why Oil and Water Dont Mix You may have encountered instances of how oil and water dont blend. Oil and vinegar serving of mixed greens dressing independent. Engine oil skims on the water in a puddle or in an oil slick. Regardless of the amount you blend oil and water, they constantly independent. Synthetics that dont blend are supposed to be immiscible. The explanation this happens is a result of the synthetic idea of oil and water particles. Like Dissolves Like The platitude in science is that like breaks up like. This means the polar fluids (like water) break up in other polar fluids, while nonpolar fluids (normally natural particles) blend well in with one another. Every H2O orâ water particle is polar in light of the fact that it has a twisted shape where the adversely charged oxygen iota and the emphatically charged hydrogen iotas are on isolated sides of the atom. Water formsâ hydrogen bonds among oxygen and hydrogen particles of various water atoms. At the point when water experiences nonpolar oil atoms, it sticks to itself as opposed to blends with the natural particles. Making Oil and Water Mix Science has stunts for getting oil and water to interface. For instance, cleanser works by going about as emulsifiers and surfactants. The surfactants improve how well water can connect with a surface, while the emulsifiers help oil and water beads combine. Thickness and Immiscibility Oil coasts on water since it is less thick or has lower explicit gravity. The immiscibility of oil and water, in any case, isn't identified with the distinction in thickness.

Everyone Can Feel Happy - Free Essay Example

William James claimed that the human mind is a theater of simultaneous possibilities (Bok p.23) and I feel that different forms of art are an important key part to enhance the depth and scope someone can feel to the world. Personally, I remember going to the Milwaukee Art Museum when I went to Wisconsin for spring break and it was one of my favorite parts of the whole trip. Some of my favorite pieces from visiting MAM were Carnaval des Fleurs by Riguad Benoit and View from the Artists Studio by Pierre Bonnard. I love the use of color and they made me appreciate the beauty of the new blooming flowers of springtime. I have also looked into art therapy and its benefits because I suffer from depression, and I found that taking time to paint and draw helped me feel relaxed and peaceful. I took art all four years of high school and it was my absolute favorite class because I didnt have papers and assignments due every night and I could work at my own pace. I remember feeling satisfactio n when I finished a piece or did a really difficult or new art medium that I wasnt used to. I think that different forms of art are a necessary part to becoming a happier person because creating something gives you a new found sense of joy. I also found that being able to share my artistic creations with others and seeing the happiness that my art gave them made me feel happy all over again. Being able to appreciate writing and poetry also brings me happiness. My mom bought me a set of poetry books for Christmas last year and I am currently re-reading them all again. I also like writing poetry and it helps me to sort of map out my emotions when everything in my head seems like a chaotic mess. Music also gives me a happy feeling. Several of the presentations that have been given on music definitely resonated with me because when I listen to happy songs, I feel happier and more motivated. I also like playing my ukulele because it helps me relax when Im stressed. Growing up as a kid, m y grandmother had a piano in her living room. I never learned it play it, but as a kid, I liked strumming all the keys and humming little songs. My grandmother also used to sing me twinkle twinkle little star to help me sleep. I feel that being able to understand and appreciate different forms of art also enhance someones freedom and individualism. If someone grows up not knowing how to appreciate art, whether written, painted or musical, they cant appreciate all that life has to offer them. And being able to appreciate them in your own way, makes you the individual you are. I appreciate and see different things in a painting than my best friend would. We are both artistic and smart so we can appreciate the artwork in front of us, but we have different life experiences and central life interests so we see the same piece of artwork differently. So, when you combine the importance of the arts and the effects that they have on freedom and individualism, I feel that they directl y affect a persons pursuit of happiness because being able to freely express yourself will allow you a sense of happiness. I know that when I finish a piece of artwork or a poem, I feel accomplished and proud of myself and that makes me feel happy. I think luck plays some part in all of this because if you seek out happiness, you may not find it. But the chance or luck of being able to find happiness is the greatest reward of all, They have no assurance of success, no assurance that happiness is owed to them (Bok p.2). That quote from Exploring Happiness really resonates with me personally because when you suffer from depression, every day is a battle of its own and finding happiness in a bad day, even if it is as simple as watching the sunset, makes all the bad things fade away. In the beginning of Exploring Happiness, Bok discusses how she may have not come to existence if her mother hadnt believed that only child families had less happiness that families with more than one child.

Poverty is Useful for Businesses to Prosper - 867 Words

What do you think of when people talk about business? A business textbook, â€Å"The Future of Business†, defines a business as â€Å"an organization that strives for a profit by providing goods and services desired by its customers† (McDaniel and Gitman), and following this, there is an idea of â€Å"money† being involved – sometimes â€Å"big money†. Ever wondered how business giants like Wal-Mart got to be where they are today? The root of all successful businesses is in its workforce. Now, thanks to the growing phenomenon known as globalization, businesses in retail are seeking elsewhere for labor, yet their position in the market grows stronger still. This is because Multinational retail chains like Wal-Mart prosper from outsourcing labor, by taking†¦show more content†¦The Independent Institute also asserted in their research, that MNCs give back by creating jobs in the less developed nations that they supply from (Powell and Skarbeck ). While this is true to a certain extent, MNCs do take advantage of the abundance of cheap labor that is available to them. For one, most MNCs outsource manufacturing labor in less developed countries with a dense population and low Gross Domestic Product per capita. For example, the Washington Post reported that China, with a population of 1.3 billion and growing, is a popular choice for Wal-Mart, and that at the time of the report, 80% of 6000 Wal-Mart suppliers are in China (Goodman and Pan). Although MNCs create jobs, MNC factories also have poor safety standards. There are many reports of poor safety conditions of these facilities, for example, the New York Times reported that a 16 year old Wal-Mart factory worker in China was found to have hands covered in blisters from handling dangerously hot plastic molding machines (Barboza). MNCs may be contributing to the economy but their concern for the welfare of the workforce is very minimal. Wal-Mart themselves have claimed that they conduct inspections audits regularly to ensure manufacturing facilities are being run legally and ethically. Their statement is disagreeable as many MNCs, including Wal-Mart, conduct unethical auditing practices when they source from less developed nations. The Appalachian Trail Essay Example For Students

The Appalachian Trail Essay When I was in the seventh grade, our class went on a field trip to Cherokee, North Carolina. The trip lasted four days and three nights, but the adventure would last a lifetime. The experience allowed me to learn many things about myself and to reflect on the beauty that was all around me. We departed at six-thirty in the morning, and I was so excited. I had never been away on a school trip for longer than a few hours. I tossed my purple duffel bag into the storage compartment, found my seat by the window, and prepared for what I knew would surely be an unforgettable adventure. When we finally arrived in the mountains, it was breathtaking. They were covered with trees, and the clouds floating over them were so beautiful. I looked down and saw valleys of flowers that went on forever. I was so anxious to get off the bus and roll in the grass with the clear, blue sky above my head. The bus came to a halt, and one by one we filed out into a parking lot. We grabbed our canteens and began the one-mile trail to the top of one of the mountains. I was one of the first people to reach the peak, and waiting for us was a notebook. We opened it to find the names of everyone who has ever reached the peak. I smiled to myself as I wrote in big letters Kim Walton and started back down the mountain. It was much easier and faster than going up, and everyone was really excited to see where we were going next. When we arrived at the Best Western, everyone grabbed his/her suitcases, quickly tucking them into the rooms as the candy shop across the street drew us in like moths to a flame. Afterwards, we went back to our rooms, put on our bathing suits, and went for a late-night swim under the stars. It was so cold, but we did not mind it because we were having so much fun. Later we went back to our rooms and went to sleep. Our next day would surely be packed with action and adventure. The next morning, we went to Alpine Tower: a seventy-five feet high vertical structure that is designed to help you work with others and test your physical strength as well as your bravery, motivation, and problem-solving strategies. Equipped with helmets, harnesses, and ropes, we took our places around the tower and prepared for the first person to go up. When it finally got to my turn, I climbed onto a log and started to work my way to the top. When I finally reached the peak, I walked over to the edge and strapped myself to a rope. As I got closer to the side, I could see how high up I was, so I turned around backwards and did a backflip off the tower. Everyone screamed, but I was flying. Nothing was holding me  down; I felt so free. The rope kept swinging in every direction and finally came to a stop where I was helped down with a ladder. Later that day, our tour group decided to whitewater rafting. We suited up and carried the gear down to the river where four rafts were waiting for us. We were traveling down the Nantahala River, which winds through the valleys of the Appalachian Mountains. The water was calm at first, so our guide began telling us a story about the Cherokee Indians. Looking around us, we could see caves where the Indians hid during their escape from the Pilgrims. The journey is known as the Trail of Tears. My great grandmother is a Cherokee Indian, so I was interested in the stories that were being told. After the rafting expedition was over, we put on dry clothes and went back to the hotel for the night. .u2533cf1087df594e799b57d420ca4568 , .u2533cf1087df594e799b57d420ca4568 .postImageUrl , .u2533cf1087df594e799b57d420ca4568 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u2533cf1087df594e799b57d420ca4568 , .u2533cf1087df594e799b57d420ca4568:hover , .u2533cf1087df594e799b57d420ca4568:visited , .u2533cf1087df594e799b57d420ca4568:active { border:0!important; } .u2533cf1087df594e799b57d420ca4568 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u2533cf1087df594e799b57d420ca4568 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u2533cf1087df594e799b57d420ca4568:active , .u2533cf1087df594e799b57d420ca4568:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u2533cf1087df594e799b57d420ca4568 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u2533cf1087df594e799b57d420ca4568 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u2533cf1087df594e799b57d420ca4568 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u2533cf1087df594e799b57d420ca4568 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u2533cf1087df594e799b57d420ca4568:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u2533cf1087df594e799b57d420ca4568 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u2533cf1087df594e799b57d420ca4568 .u2533cf1087df594e799b57d420ca4568-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u2533cf1087df594e799b57d420ca4568:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Remains of the Day - Dignity EssayOur group wanted to use the remainder of the trip wisely, so we rode to a diamond mine the next day to pan for gemstones. Before we sat down with the pans, my friend Sean and I rode the chairlift to the top of the mountain. We could see Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia all from one standpoint. On the way down, we took pictures of the mountain goats eating the grass. I settled down on a bench with a bucket of dirt and a straining pan in my hands. After hours of pouring and swishing, I gathered a nice collection of gems, including rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and amethysts. I woke up extra early the next day to pack my things up and to clean the hotel room. Everyone was sleepy, so we took short naps on the bus until we arrived at the Appalachian Trail. The hike was 8.3 miles long, so we had all day to spend taking pictures. I decided to use this time alone to think about the past three days. I looked down at the valleys of flowers and realized that I was standing in the clouds. I felt so close to God; it was amazing! After hours of climbing up and down the mountains, we finally reached the end of our trail. We returned to the bus and drove back to Myrtle Beach. I learned more about myself while I was in North Carolina. I discovered that whatever life throws at me, I will be prepared to face it head on. I realized that the things most important to me are Jesus and taking care of myself as well as caring for others. When something is holding me down, I learned that sometimes it is best to just turn around backwards and do a backflip away from my troubles. Only God knows what will happen to me, but I cannot be afraid of falling or else I will never know what it is like to fly.

Texas v. Johnson Case Study

Facts: The defendant in this case, Gregory L. Johnson, participated in demonstrations that some Americans had organized to protest the policies of some Dallas-based corporations, and the Reagan administration in general.Advertising We will write a custom case study sample on Texas v. Johnson Case Study specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The demonstrations were held at the same time as the 1984 Republican Convention that was also held in Dallas. The demonstrators marched the city of Dallas with the event culminating in the respondent’s public flag desecration. As he desecrated the flag, no threatening was done on anyone and no physical injuries occurred. However, the desecration of the flag offended a number of witnesses. Procedural History: The trial court found the defendant guilty of violating a Texas statute by desecrating a venerated object. The decision was affirmed by the State Court of Appeals. The defendant appealed i n the Court of Criminal Appeals in Texas. Issue: Did the desecration of the flag by the defendant amount to expressive conduct, permitting the respondent to enjoy First Amendment protection? Did flag preservation as a nationhood symbol justify the respondent’s conviction? Rule The Court of Criminal Appeals in Texas reversed the earlier ruling that Johnson was guilty of desecrating a venerated object. The State of Texas agreed that the conduct of the respondent was expressive in nature. The flag was burned during a political demonstration, which proved its expressive nature. The First Amendment protects such rights. The court also held that the restriction of the defendant’s expression by the state was content-based. Therefore, the preservation of the flag as a symbolic object by the state must be exactly scrutinized. The State is interested in taking proper care of the flag, but this does not require the state to criminally punish protesting people who desecrate the fl ag. Therefore, the interest of the state in the preservation of the flag as a nationhood symbol does not warrant the conviction of the respondent because it is inconsistent with the Constitution’s First Amendment.Advertising Looking for case study on common law? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Analysis The fact that the respondent burned the flag as a political event was taking place in Texas led to the confirmation that his action was expressive in nature. The defendant burned the flag solely to express a political message and thus his action was protected by the First Amendment. Additionally, the court decided that, because the burning of the flag did not in any way breach the peace of the state, the state’s interest in preserving the flag’s image as a nationhood symbol could not warrant criminal punishment of the respondent. Conclusion Yes, flag desecration done as part of a demonstration that is held o n the same day as a political event amounts to expressive conduct. The First Amendment allows such conduct. No, the state is interested in ensuring the flag is preserved as a nationhood symbol but this does not mean that it should punish demonstrators who desecrate the flag without jeopardizing the state’s peace. Additionally, there was another statute on breaches of peace, which could have been utilized in preserving the state’s peace without criminally punishing the respondent. This case drew battle lines between Congressmen who advocated for Constitutional amendment to allow restraints on desecration of flags and Congressmen who thought that the issue needed to be solved with new legislation, and without amending the Constitution. Should we use marijuana for medical purposes Professor Ramos Blog

Should we use marijuana for medical purposes Medical marijuana has helped people already in 29 states and the district of Columbia giving them positive health benefits. For example, Mykalaya has a mass in her chest. She was currently going to chemotherapy, but it was not doing what it was supposed to. Doctors recommended a full body radiation and bone marrow transplant. Mykalaya started her treatment but her parents noticed that she was not acting like herself she wasn’t happy. She didn’t want to eat, so her parent decided to try something different and started to treat her with cannabis. She takes two pills of cannabis oil twice a day which is equivalent to ten bong hits. She also eats it, in a brownie or lollipop, her parents also apply it to her skin in a lotion. Her parents say since she has started using medical marijuana she been more energized, a lot happier, and she has started gaining weight. Her parents claim that the active chemicals in medical marijuana that are like the chemical in are body that are i nvolved in appetite, memory, and pain, help reduce her anxiety and help with inflammation and relieve her pain. They also say it has helped control her nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy. It has also stimulated her appetite. More than half of the United States and the district of Columbia have legalized medical marijuana in some form, and more are considering bills to do the same. Yet while many People are using marijuana, the FDA still hasn’t approved its treatment because there haven’t been enough studies to prove that its safe and effective. Medical marijuana uses the marijuana plant or chemicals in it to treat diseases or conditions. It’s basically the same product as recreational marijuana, but it is taken for medical purposes. The marijuana plant contains more then 100 different chemicals called cannabinoids. Each one has a different effect on the body. Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (thc) and cannabidiol (cbd) are the main chemical used in medicine. The THC also produces the â€Å"high† people feel when they smoke marijuana. Depending on the strain you can either receive a creative energizing uplifting head high. There are other strains that give you a relaxing body high. The initial effects when smoked takes a few minutes to feel that could last a few hours. When you eat medical marijuana, the initial effects kick in an hour after, but the effects last several hours. Although you can never overdose on medical marijuana some side effects are dry mouth, impaired mental function, dizziness, and heart and blood pressure problems. Also, when smoking it has a negative effect on the heart and lungs. Long term effects of cannabis are not clear, but some concerns include memory and cognition problems. One of the most common use for medical marijuana in the United States is for pain control. â€Å"When ingested or inhaled, the compounds bind to specific receptors in the brain and nerve cells, which slows pain impulses and eases the discomfort.† But medical marijuana is used to treat several different conditions like cancer, multiple sclerosis, crohn’s disease, and nausea but it has also shown promising research of PTSD in veterans who are returning from combat zone. Many veterans and their therapists report drastic improvement and clamor for loosening of governmental restrictions on its study. â€Å"Research suggests that those with mental illness might be self-medicating with marijuana – turning to the plant to help manage their symptoms, rather than becoming ill after use. Emerging evidence indicates that psychiatric patients who try marijuana show significant improvements in symptoms and clinical outcomes (such as lower mortality rates and better cognitive functioning) compared with those who have not. Some of the unique chemicals in marijuana, such as cannabidiol (CBD), seem to have anti psychotic properties. Now, researchers are investigating it as a possible treatment for schizophrenia and depression† (Maurizio). There has been a major controversy with the use of medical marijuana when it comes down to children. Medical marijuana received a lot of attention a few years ago when parents said that a special form of the drug helped control seizures in their children, so far research hasn’t proved it works. But some epilepsy centers are testing a drug called Epidiolex. The research that was done and with 272 patients’ 86 percent of cases had a seizure reduction and ten percent experienced complete seizure remission. For example, Allison Hendershot relocated her family to Colorado to help her daughter who had been having seizures since she was 4 months old. Since she has been receiving Epidiolex her daughter has been able to concentrate more, and her seizures have dropped so she doesn’t have as many. Being a single mom to a 4-year-old and doing my research I would give my child medical marijuana if needed for seizures or cancer. I agree with the parent’s decision to use medical marijuana on their child. I couldn’t imagine my child going threw such hard medication with awful side effects. If a plant can help ease the pain and bring my child some comfort I will do whatever it takes. Discuss the different types of blood vessels and how their structure is uniquely suited to their functions. 2. Choose a major region of the body (for example, the thorax) and discuss the arteries and veins of that region. 3. Discuss the positive and possible negative effects of exercise on the cardiovascular system. 4. Identify and discuss the primary factors involved in the generation and regulation of blood pressure and explain the relationships among these factors. 5. Explain why a pressure difference must exist between the aorta and the right atrium. 6. Explain hepatic portal circulation. How is it different from normal circulation, and what advantages are gained from this type of circulation? This is a fun topic for a fitness trainer. The cardiovascular system is complex, but it’s even more complex when you start to factor in exercise while explaining it. Aerobic fitness is an important component of physical fitness. When your muscles need oxygen, your aerobic (cardiovascular) system must be able to efficiently deliver it to them. When your body has waste products that need to be expelled (e.g. carbon dioxide and metabolic waste products), your heart-lung complex must be up to the task. These two tasks form the functional basis of aerobic fitness. Positive effects include increasing your level of available energy, aid in relieving depression, reduce the risk of heart disease, increase the good (HDL) cholesterol. Everyone needs to be able to efficiently take oxygen into their lungs and blood and pump it to their working muscles where it is utilized to oxidize carbohydrates and fats to produce energy. If you are concerned about your health, particularly the risk of heart disease, you need to accept the fact that aerobic training can have a critical effect on the quantity and quality of your life. Some negative effects of exercise on the cardiovascular system can include a possible heart attack or stroke. Some people can tend to push themselves to hard or they can start off working out by pushing their heart a little harder than it’s used to. It’s not a very good idea to go out and try to run a marathon if you’ve spent most of your life sedentary. I used to be one of those people until I found out in 2007 that I had Tachycardia (a heart rate that is too fast). I had to adjust my workouts to accommodate the situation to include slowing down my runs and taking longer rest intervals when lifting weights. Anatomy and physiology of the human body. Dwight D. Eisenhower Leadership and Management Paper Research

Dwight D. Eisenhower Leadership and Management - Research Paper Example Management is not just confined only to organizations. Even political leaders need to have the knowledge and skills of a good manager in order to be successful in their careers. One leader with such qualities is the 34th president of the United States, Dwight David Eisenhower who exhibited both managerial and leadership qualities. This paper looks at  Eisenhower’s qualities as both of a leader and a manager. Characteristics of a Good Manager A number of factors define a good manager. The ability to have a vision about the future means that a manager is future oriented. A good manager needs to show enthusiasm in his/her work as well as to have the ability to empower and motivate others to work enthusiastically. The decision making process of a manager should be defined by an ability to make quick and informed decisions. Words need to be backed by actions. Managers who talk too much by issuing orders rarely succeed in their careers as workers need to see how they can perform t asks as well. Characteristics of a Good Leader A manager should be a good leader which means that he possesses good leadership skills. A good leader is proactive and thinks about the future. They are flexible in their decisions and actions so they can easily adapt to any change that may arise. A good leader has good communication skills, and respects the subordinates. Confidence in both leading the team and believing in personal decisions is an important quality of a good leader. A good leader shows enthusiasm in work. The interest in the feedback from the subordinates is a concern for efficient leaders, while they exhibit good organizational skills and delegate duties to the subjects (Leatherman, 2008). Leadership and Managerial Qualities of Dwight D. Eisenhower Eisenhower exhibited both leadership and managerial qualities in a number of ways. Having been a leader of the army during and after the First World War, he exhibited good leadership qualities by heading the army in war. At the onset of World War I, he immediately requested for an assignment overseas. This showed how dedicated he was in his job, showing one of the qualities of a good leader. As a hard working military man, he rose over the ranks to become Lieutenant Colonel in the National Army. As Lieutenant, he exhibited good organizational skills. He was able to organize members of the army during the war and draw placement programs of the personnel. His ability to approach members of the lower ranks and deal with them showed his commitment to the staff and his ability to effectively communicate with all the people in the military regardless of their position. His skills as a visionary leader were portrayed when he remained focused on the role of tanks in any war that would follow after the First World War. He showed his high level of commitment to his job patiently rising through the ranks of the military to become General of the Army Air Force. His dedication to work let him succeed in many assig nments such as in the invasion of Sicily. To promote democracy, he accepted the role of the President of Columbia and NATO Supreme Commander. His dream of becoming a president of the United States was supported by many people who felt that he had good leadership qualities suitable for the success of the United States. He chose to continue with Roosevelt’s plan of the New Deal for the United States and, thus, won a second term which

Politics Essay -- essays research papers

An essay on politics In this essay I will consider the social, economic factors of politics. At first glance politics may seem unenchanting, however its study is a necessity for any one wishing to intellectually advance beyond their childhood. Remarkably politics is heralded by shopkeepers and investment bankers alike, leading many to state that it is yet to receive proper recognition for laying the foundations of democracy. It still has the power to shock those politicaly minded individuals living in the past, trapped by their infamous history. Complex though it is I shall now attempt to provide an exaustive report on politics and its numerous 'industries'. Social Factors Comparisons between Roman Society and Medieval Society give a clear picture of the importance of politics to developments in social conduct. I will not insult the readers inteligence by explaining this obvious comparison any further. Back when Vealinger reamarked ‘the power struggle will continue while the great tale of humanity remains untold’ [1] he created a monster which society has been attempting to tame ever since. While the western world use a knife and fork, the Chinese use chopsticks. Of course politics is quite good. When one is faced with people of today a central theme emerges - politics is either adored or despised, it leaves no one undecided. To put it simply, people like politics. Economic Factors The dictionary defines economics as 'the social science concerned with the productio...

Why gun laws are important to the U.S.A

As the only country that guns are legalized, the United States of America has given the liberty to its people to own guns in order to protect themselves in case of emergency. Hence, to own a gun is considered to be an American right to be a citizen of the U. S. A. This right was protected by The Second Amendment of the united States constitution, where It Is mentioned that people do have right to possess and use fire arms and ammunitions. However, in order to have restriction on gun owners, government has introduced Federal Gun Laws as well as the State laws for gun extraction, in comparison of two laws, the federal laws seemed to be completed and have more restrictions on the behavior of people, where as the state laws do vary from state to states, and most of the state laws are not too strict. Second Amendment, 2014) When the citizenry gain control on fire arms, the safety of the individual house hold tend to increase, in the detail paragraphs more will be discussed on the same topi c. Despite all the gun caused tragedies, I believe that gun possession should not be held responsible of death caused in the general public, as UN Is not the only tool that causes tragedy, therefore It Is merely a ways but not the solely cause. Further more, due to legalization of guns In the U. S. He sales of guns have always being a Income for the country, hence denying the right to own guns can be as bad as denying the Income of the government; In addition, some of the heavy industries that are mainly in to the production of firearms faces bankruptcy in times that the nation do not need that much of weapons; hence due the consumption abilities generated by the citizens of the United States of America(Annually overspent receives $6 billions estimated revenue on firearms etc), this country is not likely to be affected by situations as such.In other aspect the income can be positively maintained while avoiding such tragic situation. (Sunburn, J, 2012) There are plenty of reasons to encourage the Second Amendment of the United States of America, the fore and most important factor of legalization of guns Is to protect people sudden dangers and unexpected circumstances In which people will expose to dangers that can be as bad as ruling their lives while unable to do anything about it.The fundamental theory or ideology for this idea to thrive is that, it is not that everybody can get a body guard or a police man to stay with you 24, 7. Therefore, if a burglar broke into your house and was about to harm your family, and if you call the police, they would need time to come to you, but the problem is on their arrival it would be too late to save anybody, therefore if you possess a gun, it would mean a lot, at least you can scare off the burglar.Similarly, in this society, people may face different problems that may cause them to be mentally ill, hence hey might start a mass shooting scene, however, if other people could have guns with them, then they could stop the m ad man before he could hurt anyone. On the other hand, I do believe that firearms are not the fundamental cause of violence, because It Is not true that people can get killed only by guns, and gun Itself can not kill. Therefore, the orally of the violence Is not on fire weapons and ammunitions, but people.According too news published on Forbes in the year 201 3 Jan 1st by inappropriate. According to Swinger's analysis, the rights that are granted for the tizzies should not be denied because another one has committed a crime while using that right, because everyone of us is unique and would not lead a life of another existing living body, hence it is not Just and wrong for the government to intervene in such situation, as in a man's life the only thing that you can deprive him of is the liberty that he has, and rights are considered to be liberty.Secondly, Swanker also argued that a concealed pistol would do no harm to anybody around it, unless it is drawn and used, therefore if any one would own a gun for safety reposes, it is not an evidence that can be taken to charge the owner that he or she is going to committee a crime with that weapon. (Swanker, H, 2013) In addition to the benefits of gun legalization, the economy of the country can be maintained its statues which is lucrative to become even better. According to relevant studies done by P.Brad who has had written an article on Washington post, in the year 2012 the United States of America's gun industry expects a profit approximately $998 million to be deposited for the country, which really matters a lot or a country development. As a result, we can see that when possession, purchase and usage of firearms are declared to be constitute, the economy of the country would gradually expand, therefore I myself can not see any drawbacks may caused due to this decision by all means.Statically it is too proven that, out of 100% of the firearm products, 15% would belong to the law enforcement and 25% belong to th e military purposes, while other 60% of the market was distributed among the citizens in the USA, hence we are clear that citizens indeed need guns for their own retention, and at the same time the US government could also thrive. (P.Brad, 2012) In order to finish up with this assignment, I would like to emphasis again that the fundamental cause of legalization of gun is for the protection purpose of the individuals, as when they are exposed to urgent danger, and time would not be sufficient to wait for the police officer to arrive. Hence, it is very practical to own a gun to deal with such situations. However, I insist that firearms are tools for people to achieve certain deeds, and it can not kill or harm anybody by itself, in case that regarded may be caused by firearms, I believe that it is mainly caused by ill intentioned people, and it is the only situation that it may harm people. But though people may use guns to do crimes but guns are not responsible for such situation becau se the real wrongness is with people. In short, there are plenty of rights and benefits that worth preserve by encourage the legalization of firearms. Finally, I appeal that citizenry should not be blamed with others wrong doing, and gun possession is their right, which should not be denied or abandoned, as it is their right to protect!

Analysis Of The Des Moines Latino Center Where I Met Joe...

For the community engagement part of my project, I had reached out to the Des Moines Latino Center where I met Joe Gonzalez. Joe works with many Latinos and does a lot of community outreach to help people and help them get their stories shared with the right people. Joe is also a former Lieutenant for the Des Moines Police Department. After meeting Joe, I can say that he is a great person and just wants to help others out in any way possible. He directed me to a family that he has been working with who has recently moved here from Mexico and has a story to share. This family consist of a young man at the age of 22 named Paul and his three sisters who are 13, 16, and 17 years old. I conducted an interview with Paul, his sisters, and Joe. We†¦show more content†¦For Paul, it all started about 10 years ago when his dad started working with the United States Government, DEA and the Mexican Government. He was doing computer work with cars that involved GPS and other tracking devi ces. They moved from different states in Mexico and the United States doing this work for awhile but mostly stayed in Mexico City, Mexico. Paul told me that he remembers Mexico as a safe place because there are not high crime rates in Mexico City, as it is a large city that holds the president and many other important officials. Paul told me that most of the cartels and violence happen in the rural areas that are smaller and easier to take over. About four years ago, things turned bad for Paul and his family as the cartels found out that he was working with government officials and the DEA. As Paul’s father actually worked on both sides of the conflict. While he was helping out the government, he was also running computer devices, secret compartments, etc. for cartels and gangs as well. When these gangs found out about this, they burned down his father’s shop and ever since then he has been on the run from these members. As soon as this started happening, Paul’s dad worked with the government to get his children here to the United States to keep them safe and out of harms way. This is how Paul and his sisters ended up here and how Paul was put as guardian of all of his sisters. His parents were supposed

College Essay (Soccer) Free Essays

As a senior, my team and I take our first step onto the turf field; we go on as a family that is striving to bring home the cup. This is my first, yet last chance to do this. The heat from the turf moves through my cleats and onto my feet. We will write a custom essay sample on College Essay (Soccer) or any similar topic only for you Order Now The intensity of the sun is shining straight down on me and the sweat is just beginning to start. Then my mind rewinds back to those few words that crushed me terribly last year coming from the varsity soccer coach, â€Å"I think it’d be best if you played on junior varsity this season. I spent countless nights being angry that I did not make varsity and I felt somewhat like a loser because I was a junior playing on the JV team. After a few weeks, I figured it was pointless to feel pity for myself and decided that I was going to show everyone how great I could be. Soccer has been my addiction since I was five and nothing could ever replace the desire for it. My father taught me the rules and coached me; I was set on making sure I knew every aspect of the game, attempting to perfect every skill. I was in complete disbelief when I was not put on the varsity squad, I thought I was good. I knew I had to get better because there is always room for progress. My first step was to improve my physical condition by running and lifting. Running was something that I dreaded to do every day, but knew it was so vital to do. I absolutely despised running, every time I wanted to stop I would just think, â€Å"A starter wouldn’t stop running until they’ve reached the end†. Lifting weights was an activity that I found enjoyable and did not mind doing. Besides exercising, I spent numerous hours working on my ball skills; juggling, controlling, and passing everything a starting player should be precise at. Finally, after many long months, my hard work had paid off. During tryouts I showed everyone that I was a zealous and determined player, taking practice serious and hustling for every drill. The varsity coach awarded me with a starting position for the team my senior year. My determined work ethic, initiative and discipline helped me to get where I am now. To this day I continue to work hard at every practice, even though I am starter. Slacking off is not an option for me. I have applied this lesson to many areas in my life including school work, sports and volunteer work. I am not a quitter and am never satisfied until I achieve my goals. A Symbol Of Neglect Essay Research Paper free essay sample

A Symbol Of Neglect Essay, Research Paper A Symbol of Neglect Merely when the nowadays has become the past can we reflect on what we could hold or should hold done. Yet our society is so haunted with maintaining path of clip that we spend 1000000s of dollars a twelvemonth to maintain a set of atomic redstem storksbills clicking the clip. These redstem storksbills are so accurate that they must be reset one time a twelvemonth to rectify for the Earth # 8217 ; s imperfect orbit. Our base-60 step of clip is an abstract thought dating from the Babylonians. All this, and what most human heads per se understand about clip is the past, present and future. I say most heads, because non every head does grok these abstract thoughts. Many people are able to last in the present, but give small or no idea to the hereafter, and these people normally live in the past. Such a head is the head of Miss Emily Grierson in William Faulkner # 8217 ; s A Rose for Emily. Emily Grierson survives in the present, but lives in the yesteryear. The morbid stoping is foreshadowed by the narrative # 8217 ; s opening with Miss Emily Grierson # 8217 ; s decease and funeral. The eccentric result is farther emphasized throughout by the symbolism of the decaying house, which parallels Miss Emily # 8217 ; s physical impairment and demonstrates her ultimate mental decomposition. Her life, like the house which decays around her is a direct consequence of life in the yesteryear. Part of life is decease, and the hereafter conjures life, the yesteryear, and decease. Emily # 8217 ; s instability of past and present causes her to confound the life with the dead. Possibly the most outstanding illustration of Emily # 8217 ; s confusion is the carcase of Homer Barron lying in the honeymoon room of Emily # 8217 ; s house. This division is exemplified by the symbolic imagination of Faulkner. The rose coloured room, a colour of life, is covered thickly with dust, a symbol of decease. Of class, this is non the first clip we learn of Emily # 8217 ; s confusion. Previous to Barron # 8217 ; s find, her male parent dies, and she denies that he is dead. Faulkner gives the reader a gustatory sensation of this confusion early on when Miss Emily instructs the town tax-collectors to confer with with Colonel Sartoris about her revenue enhancements, though he had been dead for 10 old ages. At this predicting point in the narrative, Emily seems to be a doddering old amah ; th is could non be further from the truth. The external features of Miss Emily # 8217 ; s house parallel her physical visual aspect to demo the transmutation brought about by old ages of disregard. For illustration, the house is located in what was one time a outstanding vicinity that has deteriorated. Originally white and decorated in # 8220 ; the to a great extent tripping manner # 8221 ; of an earlier clip, the house has become â€Å"an eyesore among eyesores† . Through deficiency of attending, the house has evolved from a beautiful representative of quality to an ugly hangover from another epoch. Similarly, Miss Emily has become an eyesore ; for illustration, she is foremost described as a â€Å"fallen monument† , to propose her former magnificence and her ulterior grotesquery. Like the house, she has lost her beauty. Once she had been â€Å"a slender figure in white† ; subsequently she is corpulent and â€Å"bloated, like a organic structure long submerged in inactive H2O with eyes lost in the fatty ridges of her face† . Both house and resident have suffered the depredations of clip and disregard. The inside of the house besides parallels Miss Emily # 8217 ; s increasing devolution and the turning sense of unhappiness that accompanies such decay. Initially, all that can be seen of the interior of the house is # 8220 ; a dim hall from which a stairway mounted into still more shadow # 8221 ; with the house smelling of # 8220 ; dust and neglect # 8221 ; . The darkness and the odor of the house connect with Miss Emily, # 8220 ; a little, fat adult female in black # 8221 ; with a voice that is # 8220 ; dry and cold # 8221 ; as if it were dark and dust-covered from neglect like the house. The similarity between the interior of the house and Miss Emily extends to the # 8220 ; tarnished gilding easel # 8221 ; with the portrayal of her male parent and Miss Emily # 8220 ; tilting on an coal black cane with a tarnished gold caput # 8221 ; . Inside and out, both the edifice and the organic structure in which Miss Emily live are in a province of impairment like tarnished metal . Finally, the townsfolk # 8217 ; s descriptions of both house and occupant reveal a common intractable haughtiness. At one point the house is described as # 8220 ; stubborn # 8221 ; as if it were disregarding the environing decay. Similarly, Miss Emily proudly overlooks the impairment of her once expansive abode. This motive recurs as she denies her male parent # 8217 ; s decease, refuses to discourse or pay revenue enhancements, ignores town chitchat about her being a # 8220 ; fallen adult female, # 8221 ; and does non state the pharmacist why she is buying arsenic. Both the house and Miss Emily go traps for that strongest representative of the 20th century, Homer Barron, labourer, foreigner, confirmed unmarried man. Merely as the house seems to reject advancement and updating, so does Miss Emily, until both of them become disintegrating mistimings. Through descriptions of the house that resemble descriptions of Miss Emily Grierson, # 8220 ; A Rose for Emily # 8221 ; emphasizes the manner that beauty and elegance can go monstrously distorted through disregard and deficiency of love. In this narrative, the house deteriorates for 40 old ages until it becomes ugly ; Miss Emily # 8217 ; s physical and emotional status dissipate in a similar mode.

15 Hilarious Pranks to Pull on College Friends

15 Hilarious Pranks to Pull on College Friends Oh Lord, there are so many hilarious pranks to pull on college friends. Listen, if you’re looking for prank ideas and don’t want to get sucked into hours of prank videos, this article is for you. Here are 15 that you can always count on, as long as they go off without a hitch and are executed safely. #1 Tape the Contents of Their Trash to Their Door Make a statement. You can find out a fair amount about a person by exposing their trash. Go into their room, especially if they’re super-messy and tape everything (within reason of course) that’s trash onto their door and let them know it’s time to clean up! #2 Fill Their Dorm Room with Popcorn This is a cheap and easy trick. Making it goes really quick and you can easily fill an entire dorm room with only about 8 or 9 bags which cost maybe $2 each. Transporting it is easy as well†¦.industrial-sized trash bags. The trick is that ideally you should be able to leave the room through the window so you can make the popcorn 5 feet tall (or more)! #3 Put a Dead Thing in Their Cereal No, not a real dead thing, but a realistic looking one. It’s not over-the-top but it works (especially on girls) you could either big a furry spider in there of substantial size, a small snake, or perhaps even a rate. #4 Change Their Computer Log-In Sounds This is truly legendary. If you can get their log in information, or get into the computer while they’re away change the log-in sound to something crazy. Anything from a full-on gun fight to a ground shaking explosion with screams of terror. Then, turn their sound system up super-loud (not so loud you blow speakers) so that the next time they expect to hear some pleasant sound suddenly they’re under siege and could potential crap themselves. #5 The Almighty Soda Bomb Mentos are pretty old. But, what you do is put a tiny hole through one, latch it onto a string and then drop it into a big bottle of soda and close the cap tightly. Simply put it back in the fridge and wait. The next person who opens that will be bombarded with fizz and syrup unlike anything they’ve ever experienced before. #6 Butter Tiles Again, cheap and easy but effective. If you have any tiles, butter them up and then wait because regardless of what kind cleats someone may be wearing they’re going to end up on their butt. Really good for roommates or college friends with hard wood floors. # 7 Completely Cover them in Flour While they Sleep Don’t pour it on so they wake up. No, instead grab like 10 bags of flour (that’s a pretty hefty clean up job remember) and slowly stealth fully cover your college buddy while they sleep. Flour is actually quite comfortable. #8 Early Alarm + Flattened Tires They’re the type of person that jet’s out of bed last minute, scrambles onto their bikes and heads off to class. Okay, so set the alarm an hour ahead of schedule (and any other clocks in the room along with it) and then flatten the tires so they think they’re going to be late. #9 Put a Fake Person In their Bed Get a realistic looking mannequin and sneak them into bed next to someone. Making the mannequin’s face scary is a bonus. They could wake up in the night screaming, or they could wake up in the morning to an unexpected stranger. Hilarious. #10 Opposite Side Switch This one doesn’t make a mess, it’s free and it’s funny. While they’re away at class sneak into their room and switch everything to the opposite side so it’s a perfect match. Then, when they bring it to your attention, seriously act as if they’re nuts and it’s been that way the whole time. If you can hold your composure it will play an epic mind prank on them. #11 Early Morning Shower Prank Simply sneak into the dorm shower while they’re getting ready for another day of collegiate labor and steal their towel and clothes so they will have no other option but to grab the shower curtain. However, this may not occur to them for some time. #12-   Shaving Cream Floor Cover the floor, completely, in fragrant shaving cream. Super cheap, and not as hard to clean up. #13 Wrapping Paper Room Grab some festive wrapping paper and thoroughly set about wrapping their entire room in it. Even if it takes 10 rolls, that’s probably only $20 to do a full single dorm room. #14 Pubic Hair + Superglue Seriously, if they have a problem cleaning up their pubes, then (with gloves on) grab a bunch of the stuff and super clue it to something that’s valuable enough to them that they’ll get the point. #15 Wake Up in Unexpected Places If they’re a heavy sleeper or utterly passed out, have them wake up in a strange place. This is so awesome when pulled off correctly. We had to boil it down to these because there are hundreds of pranks out there. But, with a little creativity you could come up with just about anything. Check out even more cruel but funny roommate pranks! How about it gang, what kinds of pranks have you played on college friends that they’ll never forget?

Compare and Contrast of Macbeth Essays

Compare and Contrast of Macbeth Essays Compare and Contrast of Macbeth Paper Compare and Contrast of Macbeth Paper Behavior of Macbeth Macbeth was not always the cold-blooded killer that one may depict in the later acts of Macbeth. At the start of the play, Macbeth could be described as a loyal hero who aimed at serving his king. However, when Macbeth came across the opportunity to seize the throne, he capitalized on it. After killing the king Macbeth changes personality and becomes extremely paranoid. I believe if Macbeth would have stayed loyal and respected the king, Scotland would have stayed peaceful. Macbeth murdered King Duncan in order to fulfill his prophecy of being king, as the witches informed him. Another detail of the prophecy to consider is Banquds future. The witches say to him Thou shalt get kings, though thou be none, meaning, mfou will never be King of Scotland, but your descendants will. Macbeth takes a mental note of this statement and the Jealousy eats away at his morals. Due to Macbeths paranoia after killing King Duncan, he makes a rash decision and sends wo murderers to seek out Banquo and his son. Although Banquds son, Fleance, escapes, the murderers execute Banquo. The paranoia of Macbeth becomes more noticeable as the play progresses, an example being the banquet scene at his residence. He has uncontrolled outbursts alarming all of the guests present at his home. Macbeth becomes unstable and is not able to continue with the dinner. He would have never acted in such a way had he not murdered King Duncan and Banquo. Macduff beheads Macbeth, seeking revenge or the murders of his wife and children, after Macbeth defeats Young Siward in battle. Malcolm is crowned King of Scotland after Macbeth is overthrown. Shortly after, Malcolm begins to feel like a target to his Jealous brother, Donalbain. Malcolm takes action and executes his own brother. Worried that his decision may be questioned, Malcolm recruits two murderers and sends them to kill anyone who raises suspicion. Scotland falls into shambles as the newly crowned king follows in the footsteps of Macbeth. Scotland is described as a peaceful land while the well-respected King Duncan reigned. However, the murder of King Duncan can be directly related to the fall of Scotland. Before learning of the Kings death, Lennox predicts the upcoming disorder, signified by nature. Scotland is thrown into a state of upheaval as Macbeth reins king. Consider the circumstance that Lady Macbeth did not push Macbeth into committing the murder. I believe that Scotland remains serene under the rule of King Duncan. Compare and Contrast of Macbeth By tonydz24
